Plants need to be matched to pot size, a small plant in a large pot will look out of place and will not grow well. A large plant in a small pot can become rootbound.

Choosing the right container or pot.
With so many types of plant containers or pots it is essential that you look at the characteristics of each pot. Terra cotta, stone, timber, PVC, glazed ceramic pots all have advantages and disadvantages.

Be aware of:
Heat retention and absorption, some containers and pots can become very hot, this not only dries out the roots of the plants but some plants do not not cope well with fluctuation in temperature from night to day.

Water retention, some pots will dry out more quickly than others, some do not drain well, some pots hold water if they sit on the ground.

Weight can be an issue if you need to move your plants around.
