Related to the Hydrangea, Decumaria species include Decumaria sinensis and Decumaria barbara both referred to as the ‘Climbing Hydrangea’.
These are the only two species in the genus and few if any cultivars are offered by growers. Also known as the Woodvamp they are best suited to zones 6 - 9.
Height is variable, they will grow as tall as they can. Some growers say 6ft, and indeed on a 6ft structure that will be correct. The same plant, if allowed to scramble into a 20 ft tree will reach 20ft.
They are slow growing plants, and seem to be gentle on the host trees if that is where they are grown. If left to sprawl on the ground you will find they they do not flower at all or only sporadicly.
