Currant plants

A lot more to currant plants than meets the eye with black, red, pink and white varieties available for sale. Not widely grown in American gardens, currants are deciduous bushy plant that reach around 6 feet in height.

With flowers and fruit that attract bees and birds lots of varieties are available with perhaps Ben Sarek and Ben Lomand being two of the best known types.

Very high in vitamin C, currents can be eaten fresh but are usually used for making jams and jellies. And of course they are dried and are then called raisins.
